My Favourite Thing: Hal Wake
My Favourite Thing is a video feature where the Georgia Straight gets interesting folks from around town to list off, among other things, their favourite performers, live gigs, and more. And, of course, their favourite thing.
Hal Wake, former radio show host and current artistic director of the Vancouver Writers Festival, has moderated hundreds of literary events around the world. So naturally, finding out what his favourite book is was a little difficult.
Wake has been with the Writers Festival for 11 years, and has interviewed countless authors, writers, and poets, including Alice Munro, Richard Ford, and Joseph Boyden. He's taught classes at both UBC and SFU and written book reviews for the Globe and Mail, the Vancouver Sun, and of course the Georgia Straight.
In addition, he's served on granting juries for the Canada Council for the Arts, the B.C. Arts Council, and the City of Vancouver. He's also an honorary member of the Writers' Union of Canada. Watch the video above to find out some of Wake's literary favourites.
The Vancouver Writers Festival runs this week from Tuesday (October 20) to Sunday (October 25), with more than 85 events happening on and around Granville Island.
