Brief Encounters at Guilt & Co.

If the Brief Encounters event has done anything over its 21 installments, it has pushed its pairings to bold new heights. The show, in which five duos of matched-up artists from different disciplines come up with short works, has outdone itself this time. Among the creations you’ll see at the production from Thursday to Saturday (May 8 to 10) at Gastown’s Guilt & Co. are a piece by “beverage alchemist” Taylor Partel with composer Marguerite Witvoet; another by singer-songwriter David Newberry and powwow dancer Nyla Carpentier; and one by slam poet Floyd VB and puppeteer Shizuka Kai (shown here). Just what their performances will look like, we can’t tell you—but we can promise you a good time.
