Emily Carr University graduates' work celebrated at The Show 2016
This spring, more than 400 students will be graduating from Emily Carr University of Art + Design, and as of this Saturday, almost all of them will be showcasing work in THE SHOW.
Opening to the public tomorrow evening (May 7), THE SHOW will feature over 300 works by graduates of the Design, Media Studies, and Visual Arts programs. The majority of the ECUAD campus, including classrooms, libraries, and corridors, has been transformed into studio spaces for the duration of the exhibition.
Mediums on display include a diverse range of works: photography, video, painting, sculpture, animation, design, interactive works, and more.
The campus' Concourse Gallery will feature a cross-examination of the exhibition, while the Charles H. Scott Gallery will show work by students of the Masters of Applied Arts Degree program.
On Sunday (May 8), attendees can view screenings of films and animation, including 3D and stop-motion animation, short films, and installations, at the York Theatre.
Head of the grad exhibition curatorial team, Patrik Andersson, led media through the university's main concourse this morning for a preview of the show.
"We're thrilled to open this exhibition to highlight the work of 2016's graduating class," said Andersson, associate professor of critical and cultural studies, in a press release. "Emily Carr has a history of introducing emerging talent who go on to become important influencers in the world of art and design, and the class of 2016 is no exception in producing outstanding and impactful works."
With Emily Carr's relocation to Great Northern Way coming very soon, this is said to be "one of the last graduate exhibitions at Granville Island".
We managed to snap a few images of the work hanging in the main concourse, but you'll have to check out the exhibit yourself to see the rest. (Unless you want to be lame and check them out in this online catalogue.)
The public exhibition will kick off with the opening night celebration on Saturday (May 7) from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. THE SHOW will be open daily until May 22, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends.
