Jian Ghomeshi blames CBC firing on risk of publicity about his sex life, which includes BDSM

The former host of CBC's national radio arts program Q says he's been fired "as a result of a campaign of false allegations pursued by a jilted ex girlfriend and a freelance writer".

In a lengthy Facebook post, Jian Ghomeshi stated  that he has "commenced legal proceedings against the CBC".

The broadcaster says it's important to him that people know what happened. He also asked for forgiveness if what he wrote shocks them.

"I have always been interested in a variety of activities in the bedroom but I only participate in sexual practices that are mutually agreed upon, consensual, and exciting for both partners," Ghomeshi revealed. "About two years ago I started seeing a woman in her late 20s. Our relationship was affectionate, casual and passionate. We saw each other on and off over the period of a year and began engaging in adventurous forms of sex that included role-play, dominance and submission."

He added that the couple discussed their interests "before engaging in rough sex (forms of BDSM)".

"We talked about using safe words and regularly checked in with each other about our comfort levels," Ghomeshi wrote. "She encouraged our role-play and often was the initiator. We joked about our relations being like a mild form of Fifty Shades of Grey or a story from Lynn Coady's Giller-Prize winning book last year. I don’t wish to get into any more detail because it is truly not anyone's business what two consenting adults do. I have never discussed my private life before. Sexual preferences are a human right."

Ghomeshi stated that he ended the relationship at the start of this year. He claimed that the woman then alleged that "she had been a victim of abusive relations with me".

(The woman's side of the story has not been made public and Ghomeshi did not reveal her identity.)

At one point, a media outlet investigated but never published a story, Ghomeshi stated.

"I have been open with the CBC about this since these categorically untrue allegations ramped up," he wrote. "I have never believed it was anyone's business what I do in my private affairs but I wanted my bosses to be aware that this attempt to smear me was out there. CBC has been part of the team of friends and lawyers assembled to deal with this for months."

Ghomeshi summed up his post by stating that he lost his job "based on a campaign of vengeance", which came two weeks after the death of his father.

"I have loved the CBC," Ghomeshi concluded. "The Q team are the best group of people in the land. My colleagues and producers and on-air talent at the CBC are unparalleled in being some of the best in the business. I have always tried to be a good soldier and do a good job for my country. I am still in shock. But I am telling this story to you so the truth is heard. And to bring an end to the nightmare."

Is he a John Furlong? A CeeLo Green? Or a Liam Donnelly?

Jian, my dear, I shall miss you on the CBC! However I know you shall rise even higher because you're far too talented and curious to remain silenced. I await your return to the airwaves... erm, digital highway... or whatever the kids are calling it these days.

CBC may be just too prudish; Sook-Yin Lee came close to losing her job with CBC because of her work on the sexually explicit film Short Bus.

Jian has enormous credibility. He was a potential threat to the Harper petrostate regime and the Harper toadies in CBC management jumped at the chance to jettison Jian.

Since we have a real live Harper media toady NPA mayoral candidate it would be a hoot to hear his risible spin on this subject.

Wow, uh, usually in this situation all of you would be screaming for a lynching and already convicting him saying we have to because he's a man and the patriach and blah, blah, blah.

I guess when it's a smarmy hipster you like that all goes out the window.

CBC would fire staff because of potential smear campaign from a jilted lover? There's probably more to the story.

Harper would do anything he thinks he can get away with to silence critics. This firing smacks of Harper meddling.
