Vancouver artists Vikky Alexander, Dana Claxton, and Nancy Davenport have made the nomination longlist for the annual Scotiabank Photography Award.
The big winner, a cash prize of $50,000, a solo exhibition at the Ryerson Image Centre, a primary exhibition at the Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival, and a book of their work published and distributed worldwide by art book publisher, Steidl of Germany.
Launched in 2010 by Scotiabank and photo artist Edward Burtynsky, the Scotiabank Photography Award recognizes outstanding Canadian photo-based artists who have made a significant contribution to the arts in Canada. It's aimed at mid- to late-career artists to help them push their national and international careers.
The panel of nominators consisted of high-profile academics and curators from across the country, including Daina Augaitis, chief curator/associate director of the Vancouver Art Gallery.
The shortlist will be announced March 8.
