“The authorities have announced a final eviction of the Jungle. Hoshyar’s house is to be demolished, along with most of the camp.” This is just one brutally moving moment in Kate Evans’s Threads: From the Refugee Crisis, the graphic novel where she documents the Calais Jungle and follows the experiences of Iraqi refugee Hoshyar. Evans culled the stories and images from travelling to the beleaguered refugee city, and she’ll relate some of those experiences at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts’ Beyond Words series on Friday (September 29). Projections of her vivid drawings and live music by Iranian-Canadian hand drummer Hamin Honari liven up the readings; stay for a panel discussion afterward.
