Among the Lawren Harris, Jean Paul Riopelle, and A.Y. Jackson art works up for auction next month in Toronto is an Emily Carr painting showing Indigenous life in Kitsilano.

The Heffel Fine Auction House has posted an image on its website of Indian Encampment, Vancouver, which was created by the famed Victoria artist circa 1908-09.

The 25.1-centimetre-by-34.9-centimetre painting is estimated to be worth between $50,000 and $70,000.

It shows Indigenous people living near the rail crossing on the Kitsilano Indian Reserve, which was on the western edge of False Creek under what is now the Burrard Bridge.

At the time of the painting, the bridge hadn't been built. The Art Deco crossing wasn't completed until 1932.

The Heffel live auction will take place at Toronto's Design Exchange on November 22.
