A Hollywood star will participate in a chat about his latest book—his first in almost 20 years—at an upcoming Vancouver event.

The Vancouver Writers Festival announced today (January 20) that its first Winter Book Club event, in partnership with the Vancouver International Film Festival, will feature an exclusive Canadian event featuring actor, screenwriter, director, and author Ethan Hawke (Before Sunrise, Boyhood) for his new novel A Bright Ray of Darkness.

Vancouver author and podcast host Jen Sookfong Lee (The Conjoined, The Better Mother, The End of East) will moderate a Q&A session with Hawke (who authored Rules for a Knight, The Hottest State, and Ash Wednesday) at this online event that will launch the festival’s 2021 Book Club season.

A Bright Ray of Darkness is narrated by a young theatre actor making his Broadway debut in the challenging role of Hotspur in Henry IV while he copes with the collapse of his marriage and seeks reconciliation.

The event will be held at 4 p.m. PT (7 p.m. ET) on March 14, and tickets can be purchased online. Ticket purchases include a hardcover copy of the novel.
