Blueridge Chamber Music Festival features performances at the Polygon Gallery and Orpheum Annex August 7 to 15

      Local chamber-music fans can check out some top-notch performers in the next nine days.

      From August 7 to 15, the Blueridge Chamber Music Festival is presenting five concerts--three downtown at the Orpheum Annex and two over on the North Shore at Polygon Gallery.

      First up is tomorrow's (August 7) Three Sisters program at the Orpheum Annex, featuring Clara Schumann’s Piano Trio in G Minor,  Germaine Tailleferre’s Piano Trio, and Cécile Chaminade’s Second Trio. Performing will be violinist Rebecca Whitling, flutist Paolo Bortolussi, cellist Luke Kim, and pianists Alejandro Ochoa, Manuel Laufer, and Jeremy Chaulk.

      Then on Sunday (August 8), Montreal-based Baroque cellist Elinor Frey performs works by Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre, Lisa Streich, and Linda Catlin Smith at the Polygon.

      Thursday (August 12) at the Orpheum Annex--and August 15 at the Polygon as well--is Warming By the Fire, a program of works by Vancouver composer Jennifer Butler, Toronto-based Cree composer Cris Derksen, and American composer Pauline Oliveros. Performers will be soprano Heather Pawsey soprano, flutist Mark McGregor, clarinetist Michelle Goddard, French hornist Holly Bryan, trombonist Jeremy Berkman, percussionists Katie Rife and Julia Chien, and the Microcosmos Quartet (violinists Marc Destrubé and Andrea Siradze, violist Tawnya Popoff, and cellist Rebecca Wenham).

      August 14 at the Orpheum Annex will see Music From the Edge, and program of works by Alexina Louie (Music from Night’s Edge), Rebecca Clarke (Dumka), and Sofia Gubaidulina (Piano Quintet). Performers will be violinists Jennie Press and Jae-Won Bang, violist Emilie Grimes, cellist Jonathan Lo, and pianists Alejandro Ochoa, Manuel Laufer, and Jeremy Chaulk.
