The Cultch announces 11 in-person shows for 2022

      The Cultch has announced 11 more in-person shows as part of its 2021/2022 Winter/Spring season.

      "There is truly something for everyone," promises Cultch executive-director Heather Redfern in a news release, "thought-provoking and funny theatre, explosive dance, amazing circus, all topped off with a tour de force musical. These worlds of creativity and imagination will lift us out of isolation and into togetherness."

      Here's the lineup of shows (all descriptions in quotes are taken from the news release):

           * Sea Sick (The Theatre Centre, Toronto), February 2 to 19 at the Historic Theatre: "A critically acclaimed production about climate change and the state of the global ocean."

           * RAVEN (still hungry | Chamäleon Berlin), February 8 to 13 at the York Theatre: "...a powerful and refreshingly different piece of contemporary circus about motherhood."

      Pi Theatre's Beautiful Man runs from February 24 to March 5 at the Historic Theatre.

           * Beautiful Man (Pi Theatre, Vancouver), February 24 to March 5 at the Historic Theatre: "...an eviscerating satire of gender roles in popular culture."

           * In Response to Alabama (Little Thief Theatre, Vancouver), March 3 to 12 at the Cultch: "A site-responsive theatre piece where three performers share the stories of their abortions with a small audience in intimate settings throughout The Cultch."

           * Little Red Warrior and His Lawyer (Savage Society, Vancouver), March 3 to 13 at the York Theatre: "From playwright Kevin Loring of the Nlaka’pamux Nation comes a wickedly funny satire about power, politics, and procreation."

      Neworld Theatre's Clean/Espejos runs from March 10-19 at the Historic Theatre.

           * Clean/Espejos (Neworld Theatre, Vancouver), March 10 to 19 at the Historic Theatre: "...a new work from celebrated playwright Christine Quintana that intimately explores different perspectives of female solidarity, secrets, and survival across two languages."

           * Bunny (The Search Party, Vancouver), March 17 to 27 at the Vancity Culture Lab: "Armed only with Victorian Literature and an unconventional upbringing, Sorrel discovers the power of her own desire."

           * BOW’T TRAIL RETROSPEK (RD Créations, Montréal), March 23 to 26 at the Historic Theatre: "...pioneering choreographic documentary is a conversation between the present and the past, voiced through the channelling body of Rhodnie Désir in which more than 130 testimonies collected on seven lands of the Americas still reside."

           * Bad Parent (Vancouver Asian Canadian Theatre), April 20 to May 1 at the Historic Theatre: "From Ins Choi—the creator of the hit CBC sitcom and play Kim’s Convenience—comes an honest, no-holds-barred portrait of young parents struggling to find their way."

      Catalyst Theatre's The Invisible: Agents of Ungentlemanly Warfare runs from April 29 to May 7 at the York Theatre.

           * The Invisible: Agents of Ungentlemanly Warfare (Catalyst Theatre, Edmonton), April 29 to May 7 at the York Theatre: "Inspired by the true stories of female special operations executives during WWII, this musical tour-de-force is an incredible genre-busting mash-up of historical research, film-noir, graphic novels, and musical theatre."

           * Himmat (Theatre Conspiracy, Vancouver), May 6 to 15 at the Historic Theatre: "a humorous and heartwarming narrative in Punjabi and English delving into the world of a father and daughter born generations and miles apart."
