The Elektra Women's Choir will open its 35th season with performances at Pacific Spirit United Church on November 26 and 27.

The choir will perform a full-concert Christmas/Winter Solstice piece, The Light of Hope Returning, with soloist Allison Girvan and an instrumental ensemble.

"Based on folk styles and familiar carols," reads the event info on the choir's website, "this unique score by Shawn Kirchner is performed live with the original, award-winning video co-commissioned by Elektra in 2020 from Syrian-American artist Kevork Mourad.

"The Light of Hope Returning poignantly reflects the current state of global uncertainty, while at the same time ultimately trusting in the cycle of the seasons and the hope embodied by the eventual return of light."

Other events in the Elektra Women's Choir's 35th season include The Lost Words: A Spell Book (March 8 and 9 at the Vancouver Playhouse); Lake of Stars (featuring the VSO's Sitka String Quartet, May 14 at Pacific Spirit United Church); and An Enchanted Evening With Elektra (June 9 at the Vancouver Club).
