Fans of Inuit throat-singing can revel in its hypnotic effect from the comfort of their homes starting this Friday (October 16).

As part of the Chan Centre Dot Com Series, a live performance by Yellowknife-raised sisters Inuksuk Mackay and Tiffany Ayalik, aka PIQSIQ, is available for streaming. The program will feature both ancient songs and new compositions.

“One of my very favourite feelings is to be able to throat sing for a very long time with somebody,” says Ayalik on the Chan Centre website, “it does get a bit trance-like and it’s just a really beautiful way to bond with someone you love.”

This virtual event--presented in collaboration with UBC’s Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery and the UBC School of Music as part of Soundings: An Exhibition in Five Parts--runs until December 21.
