As cultural experiences go it’s promising to be an authentic one, with the highlights ranging from appearances by prolific actor-singer Gippy Grewal to Bollywood-fusion dance demonstrations to an old-school themed Punjabi village.

The backdrop is the inaugural South Asian Family Festival, taking place on June 18 at the PNE.

Placing an emphasis on fun for the whole family, the noon-to-8pm event will feature two stages. Joining Grewal as a PNE Amphitheatre headliner will be Punjabi film star Sonam Bajwa, and hitmaking singers Maninder Buttar and Happy Raikoti. On the second stage East Indian, South Indian, and Bollywood fusion dance.

An onsite bazaar will feature everything from traditional clothing and jewelry to hand-crafted goods to home decor, with artists on hand offering traditional henna designs. Expect those designs to be on display in the fashion-show component of the SAF Festival.

A Punjabi village will spotlight traditional music instruments and farm equipment, with an auto showcase spotlighting classic and new models by Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Mazda.

Food-wise, expect a mix of South Asian street food from Ustaad 76 as well as traditional chai from Chaiiwala of London.

All tickets to the South Asian Film Festival will give attendees access to Playland, as well as festival games across the grounds.

Tickets to the South Asian Family Festival are currently on sale, all-day passes running at $35, with all-day passes plus rides coming in at $55. Passes get you access to the musical performances, fashion show, and food truck area.
