Marian Penner Bancroft has just been announced the winner of the Audain Prize for Lifetime Achievement in the Visual Arts.

The Vancouver artist is best-known for her photo art, which explores landscapes both natural and urban. She teaches at the Emily Carr University of Art and Design.

The prize from the Audain Foundation grants $30,000 annually to a senior B.C. artist, selected by an independent jury.

In the same announcement, Northwest carver Beau Dick and interdisciplinary-performative artist Ron Tran were named recipients of the $12,000 2012 VIVA Awards, granted annually by the Jack and Doris Shadbolt Foundation.

The Audain Prize and VIVA Awards will be formally presented at the Great Hall of the B.C. Law Courts on May 9.
