Pianist Jon Kimura Parker talks with the Vancouver Recital Society's Leila Getz for Beyond the Concert Hall

      If you've been wondering what renowned Canadian pianist Jon Kimura Parker has been up to lately, here's your answer.

      Today the Vancouver Recital Society's founder and artistic director, Leila Getz, posted a 27-minute interview with Parker on the society's YouTube channel.

      "Jackie and Leila discuss his concerts with the VRS as a young pianist," reads the YouTube info, "his Gold Medal win at the 1984 Leeds International Piano Competition, and their shared memories of the late Dame Fanny Waterman, founder of the Leeds Competition.

      "They also chat about his work as Artistic Director of the Honens International Piano Competition, and how his early experience at Leeds informs how he looks at piano competitions today."

      A collaborator in a wide variety of styles, Parker has performed with such artists as Doc Severinsen, Audra McDonald, Bobby McFerrin, Pablo Ziegler, and Stewart Copeland, legendary drummer of the Police. You can learn more about him and hear samples of his music here.
