Upintheair Theatre has announced the second iteration of its annual commissioning series The Array!
From December 3 to 5 four Vancouver-based companies--House of Rice, Popcorn Galaxies, rice & beans theatre, and Hunters, Tricksters & Mystics--will present 15- to 20-minute streamed performances examining the theme of "First Contact".
According to the event info, "the presentations range from a series of drag performances about socially distanced human contact to Indigenous perspectives on doom-scrolling and online dating and from old-school letter exchanges to a meditation on the loss of physical contact."
The program includes House of Rice's Connection Error: Attempting to reconnect... (created and performed by Maiden China, Shay Dior, Kara Juku, and Skim); Popcorn Galaxies' The Dead Letter Office (created and performed by June Fukumura and Keely O’Brien); rice & beans theatre's what it would take for you to take my hand again (created and performed by Derek Chan and Pedro Chamale); and Hunters, Tricksters & Mystics' Snagged in the Loop (created and performed by Nyla Carpentier, David Geary, Raven John, and Taran J. Kootenhayoo).
Tickets for the online event are pay-what-you-choose ($10, $20, or $40), and you can find them here.
