The Vancouver Mural Festival is happening from August 4 to 22 this year.

The event will see the creation of over 60 new murals in 11 neighbourhoods, plus more than 40 live shows, mural tours, and public talks, both in-person and online.

Neighbourhoods included in the mural project include Cambie Village, Downtown, Edgemont Village, Hogan’s Alley, Marpole, Mount Pleasant, Punjabi Market, River District, South Granville, Strathcona, and West End.

"VMF harnesses the power of public art to connect communities," reads the event info, "showcase diverse cultures and histories, and serve as a catalyst for addressing many of the socio-cultural issues facing our city and communities.

"Working with and providing a platform for underrepresented/marginalized groups—including BIPOC, LGBTQIA2S+, and youth—is at the core of what VMF is about."

The festival's featured projects this year include Blanketing the City IV: Cathedral Square, a public art collaboration featuring weavers from the three local First Nations; Black Strathcona Resurgence Project, aimed at reconciling the systemic racism endured by Blacks in Vancouver; and Punjabi Market: Murals In The Market, which facilitates storytelling and discussion around racism and discrimination through public art by local BIPOC artists.
