Film enthusiasts simply cannot miss out on the ninth annual Vancouver Polish Film Festival (VPFF), copresented by SFU Woodward’s Cultural Programs at Simon Fraser University. Each year, the festival fosters community engagement with local businesses, shares Polish culture, and celebrates film as a powerful medium.

By showcasing the cultural creativity of filmmakers, the VPFF helps integrate the visual arts communities of Poland and Canada.

With the current COVID-19 restrictions, the VPFF has had to move to a smaller venue to ensure guests and staff can stay safe. This year, the visually rich festival will be held at Vancouver’s beloved Rio Theatre on Sunday, November 8.

Since the festival is being held at a more intimate venue, fewer tickets were available to the public. All tickets have already been spoken for but all hope should not be lost. Those who were unable to lock down a ticket can be put on the waitlist by sending an email to the .

Festival attendees will get to enjoy two feature Polish films along with two other cinematic masterpieces selected by the VPFF virtual audience.

Thriller drama follows three men residing in a rural community as they face a horrifying event that changes their lives forever.

Dramedy is the story of a young woman named Ola who must travel to Ireland to bring her father’s body back to Poland. Ola hopes to discover that her father salted away the money for her car that he had once promised.

Both of these films will be screened in their original language with English subtitles on November 8.

This special annual event is possible due to the support from the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Vancouver and the new consul general Andrzej Mankowski. The festival’s organizers are grateful to have many long-time sponsors that contribute each year to make the event a huge success.
