3:01 Pick Me Up: Anchoress

Let’s face it: 3 p.m. is the cruellest time of the workday. The morning latte has worn off, and the post-lunch crash has you staggering around like an extra from a George A. Romero flick. That’s why, each weekday at 3:01 p.m., we present you with a video hand-picked to kick-start your heart. If the following clip doesn’t bring you temporarily back to life and help get you through the rest of the afternoon, chances are you’re dead inside.

Today’s offering: Strange as this seems in 2011, there once was a time when punk rockers were expected to look like they’d taken every one of their unsanitary fashion cues from Sid Vicious. Thankfully, that’s all changed. As Vancouver’s Anchoress proves, you can rock hard enough to impress fans of Minor Threat and still look clean-cut enough to impress a girl’s parents. And, yes, that includes the girls singing along in this clip, all of whom—much like the band—appear to have bathed at least once in the previous 24 hours. Somewhere, Saint Sid is wondering what the hell happened.
