3:01 Pick Me Up: The Enigmas

Today’s offering: If we learned anything from our last visit to the old folks’ home, the mid-’80s were a strange time on the Vancouver punk scene. First-wave punk bands such as the Pointed Sticks, Modernettes, and Subhumans had all broken up. In their place, there was a crop of newcomers—Images in Vogue, Skinny Puppy, Grapes of Wrath—that seemed to buy their hair products in bulk. The city wasn’t entirely lacking in old-fashioned ass-kicking rock ’n’ roll bands though. Garage-rock revivalists the Enigmas were as tight as they come. So tight, in fact, that one was almost able to forgive them for their taste in clothes.
