When a goal really isn’t a goal in English soccer

We’ve all seen some baffling decisions in sport, but even at the most junior level you can tell when the ball has gone in the net.

However, that was a problem in a recent match in the English Championship between Watford and Reading, where the assistant referee called a goal for Reading, despite the ball never going crossing the line, or indeed coming close to it.

The match finished 2-2, leaving players understandably furious and nonplussed. Amazingly, the Football League did not accede to calls for a replay from both managers. Instead, they tried to remove this video and others like it from YouTube.
