High on Fire frontman calls Aerosmith "the crappiest, most overrated shit band of all time."

I think Aerosmith's latest music stinks as much as the next rock fan who's not an idiot, but it sounds to me like the frontman from California stoner-metal trio High On Fire (who they fuck are they?) is really going overboard with his rant posted at A.V.Club.com today.

Matt Pike was featured in the site's Hate Song column, where "our favourite musicians, writers, comedians, and actors expound on the one song they hate most in the world." Pike chose Aerosmith's "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)"--which I don't care much for either--but then he went on to crap all over the band, not even considering how wicked they were in the '70s.

"I have this button called the off button or the mute button that I call the Aerosmith button on all my stereos," Pike expounded. "I just have this weird thing with Aerosmith, where I don’t even care what people say about their old shit. I think they’re the crappiest, most overrated shit band of all time. And I fucking can’t stand them. [Laughs.] And that particular song gets under my skin to where I want to stab people."

I suggest Pike take a good close listen to albums like Get Your WingsRocks and Draw the Line--or even the underrated Done With Mirrors--before writing Aerosmith off as never any good. Or he could just check this out. Then again, when A.V. Club interviewer Marah Eakin told him that "Dude" was supposed to be about Mötley Crüe, he showed his true colours as far as taste in music goes.

"Well, I don’t care," he ranted. "I love Mötley Crüe, because they’re fucking 10 times the band that Aerosmith is."

      I couldn't agree less.

You're completely wrong. Matt Pike hit the nail on the head. And, he's a far better musician than the idiots in aerosmith. At least he writes his own songs. High on Fire is one of the best bands around. The fact that you wrote, "who the fuck are they?" means you're one of the group of simpletons Matt mentioned. You should expand your horizons, or for that matter, get entirely off that crappy planet you're on. Aerosmith is terrible. I gave them a listen I don't know how long ago and threw the tape out the car window halfway through the first song. It's pure shit.

I'm kinda fond of a few Aerosmith moments myself, but it does say something that I own five High on Fire albums at present (and one Sleep album - also a Matt Pike project) and NO Aerosmith at all, not even Toys in the Attic. High on Fire are soon going to do an opening slot for Anthrax at the Commodore - people curious about their sound (they put the sludge in sludge metal and the stoner in stoner doom) are directed to check out any and all of Blessed Black Wings, which I think is the fan-consensus masterpiece...

The guitarist for Aerosmith is completely overrated. As stated above, Matt Pike (and the rest of his band) are far better musicians. Aerosmith is crap music for old ladies to sit in their rocking chairs and knit to.

Maybe that was the Just Push Play album you threw out the window, and justifiably so. Bet it wasn't Draw the Line. At any rate, I tried to expand my horizons and listened to some High on Fire songs. Kind of unnecessary, aren't they, when Motorhead's still around?

Aerosmith really are one of the most overrated bands ever...5-6 pretty good songs during the 70's...and that's it.

Harsh? Nope. Time to reconsider your taste.

Great article. Aerosmith might be past it, like the Stones (another great band), but in their prime, they rocked the house! And he likes Motley Crue. That says it all. Fucking turkey.
