The latest contestant for the position of World's Worst Person says women wouldn't care about street harassment if the guys who catcall them were attractive.
In a recent "debate" on CNN hosted by Fredricka Whitfield, comedian Amanda Seales and Steve Santagati, author of The MANuel (ugh), discuss a recent video chronicling street harassment in New York City.
The CNN segment is gross from the outset. After Seales mentions she is harassed on the street on a daily basis, Santagati murmurs, "nice, nice", in a voice that makes my skin crawl.
In the interview, Seales notes that, "Women are expected to be smiling and available for whatever men want to say to us...but a lot of these men, they're not just saying hello. They say hello and when you say hello back, what that means is that's an invitation to now holler at you".
When Seales tells Santagati that, "You are not an expert on this, my brother, because you are not a woman walking in the street," he immediately responds, "No, no, but I'm more of an expert than you and I'll tell you why: because I'm a guy and I know how we think, more than you'll ever know."
Despite acknowledging mere moments before that he has no idea how women think, Santagati proceeds to tell the women exactly how they think: "The bottom line is this, ladies: you would not care if all these guys were hot. They would be bolstering your self-esteem, bolstering your ego. There is nothing more than a woman loves to hear than how pretty she is."
He also says, "I want to start a coalition against women who don't compliment men". I have no idea if that's a joke or not.
Other choice comments from Santagati: "Political correctness has gone too far!", "No one's holding a gun to your head saying you have to live in New York City.", and "Be a strong woman!"
He also suggests women start carrying guns.

And from the comments on the video, which, just, don't read them:
I wanna buy this guy a drink. Thanks a lot for pointing out the problem. Tired of these bitch mentality women. Wearing a provoking clothes in public and when you get a reaction you say you want to be left alone?? The ugly actress in the "catcalling video" is wearing a tights and i'm sure it helps her protrude her fat ass. That's why the men that are hollering at her are hollering from the back only after seeing her fat ass. Her face is ugly and no one even cared
As for Santagati, he seems to think the entire thing is such a clever joke!
@stevesantagati keeps retweeting people to make this situation look like a big joke. Catcalling isn't a joke. Women are not a joke. You are.— Erin Shaughnessy (@Erin_Laura) November 2, 2014
I'm gonna go find a shower to jump into now.
