A New York City library is reporting that an overdue book has been returned 55 years late.

The book in question (a copy of Fire of Francis Xavier) was returned Monday (February 4) after being checked out since April of 1958.

When asked about the question of late fees, New York Public Library spokesperson Amy Geduldig said that "it's tempting to say it would be an astronomical number, but it wouldn't be."

Luckily enough for the mystery borrower, Geduldig indicated that in most cases, the penalty is paying the replacement costs.
