New Society Publishers reacquired from Douglas & McIntyre

Another piece of the puzzle created by the insolvency of long-standing local publishing house Douglas & McIntyre has fallen into place today.

A media release from New Society Publishers, formerly a D&M imprint, announces that it has been bought back by its previous owners Chris and Judith Plant and Carol Newell. New Society specializes in activism-oriented books on ecology and justice issues. Judith Plant will resume her role as publisher.

D&M purchased New Society in 2008, but the insolvency D&M declared last October has resulted in a recent flurry of acquisitions. Just yesterday, Harbour Publishing announced that it had bought D&M’s flagship imprint, Douglas & McIntyre. Last week, Heritage House revealed its purchase of D&M imprint Greystone Books.
