Vancouver’s Theatre Conspiracy presents Extraction at the Cultch (1895 Venables Street) from March 5 to 9.

Extraction is a documentary theatre show that won the Rio Tinto Alcan Performing Arts Award for Theatre in 2013. The bilingual piece digs into the highly charged political debate while looking at China’s rise as an economic power and oil extraction in Alberta. The performers in Extraction are not actors but people who play themselves, including a former Canadian diplomat and journalist, a freelance interpreter from Beijing, and a recent Chinese immigrant in Vancouver.

Extraction was written and casted by Tim Carlson, directed by Amiel Gladstone, with dramaturgy by Jeremy Waller, video and technical design by Flick Harrison, original music by Ron Samworth, stage management by Yvonne Yip, assistant stage management by Stacy Sherlock, and performances by Jimmy Mitchell, Teresa Tang, and Sunny Sun.

Tickets to Extraction are $17 and can be purchased through the Cultch’s box office online or by phone at 604-251-1363.
