Justin Timberlake mocks Hugo Chavez as Venezuelans mourn

Imagine the reaction in the United States if Barack Obama died after a long bout with cancer, and one of Britain's top entertainers went on the BBC and ridiculed him.

The equivalent just happened to Venezuelans this weekend when Justin Timberlake appeared on Saturday Night Live and poked fun at Hugo Chavez shortly after his death.

"I have to confess I didn't know Hugo Chavez very well," Timberlake said at the piano in an Elton John costume. "But as the saying goes, hey, a gig is a gig. I did a bit of research, and it turns out President Chavez was quite a complex man. So here goes. Everything in this song is true."

Serenading to "Candle in the Wind", Timberlake sang "Goodbye Hugo C."

"You were a man of the people, and you liked to wear a sash," he crooned. "You called George Bush the devil when you spoke at the UN. You said he smelled like sulphur. And you called him Mr. Danger."

The Mr. Danger quote actually refers to a commentary Chavez made in reference to George W. Bush's ignorance of history. Catch the full context in the video below.

Hugo Chavez calls George Bush a donkey and Mr. Danger.

I think what Justin Timberlake did is 100% unacceptable. Chavez had his own way of seeing things as much as the US has. What happened to morality....no wonder Hugo was Anti-US.

chvez was anti american he hated us so what if timberlake made fun of him why is it that were the only country that cant talk shit or make fun of some one without any repercussions. I understand that we are allways trying to be the bigger person an not be rude but this is a big country so someone is going to say something rude so why hate since every other country is twice as rude to us so screw them an stand by your fellow people.

Wow, you guys sure get offended easily. Chavez exploited his people so he was certainly no saint. Justin bores me, but he has a right to say whatever he wants. Your anti-american prejudices are clearly showing.

Justin Timberlake has plummeted to a new low... Hugo Chavez would not have stooped so low as to mock an American's death. Shame.
