A popular hiking loop in North Vancouver has been closed after a rockslide sent huge boulders into the Seymour River.

On Sunday (December 7), Metro Vancouver asked the public to stay off the Fisherman's, Homestead, and Twin Bridges trails in the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve.

The regional government's 8 p.m. update states, in part:

North Vancouver District and Metro Vancouver crews continue to assess the area where a rockslide entered the Seymour River. There is currently no risk to public safety or threat of flooding. Drinking water supply is not affected. However, the public are asked to stay off of the following trails as crews continue to assess the situation - Fishermans, Homestead and Twin Bridges are closed until further notice. Updates will be provided as information becomes available.

Meanwhile, North Vancouver RCMP tweeted yesterday afternoon that homes in the area weren't being evacuated.

The rockslide happened on the weekend downstream from Twin Bridges, reportedly forming a small lake above the debris in the Seymour Canyon.
