Michelle Shocked says "God hates fags"

Michelle Shocked killed whatever was left of her “musical career” by outing herself as a raging fundamentalist Christian bigot at a gig in where else but San Fransisco.

The politically-minded folk singer whose biggest hit "Anchorage" peaked at #66 on Billboard's 1988 Hot 100, converted to Christianity in the 1990s and recently released a live gospel album.

Her only comment since the incident has been her last Twitter transmission: Truth is leading to painful confrontation " after the show on Sunday night (March 17).

She was already well on her way down the slippery zealotry-slope in 2008 when she told the Dallas Voice: "Right now, the evangelicals are staking out a ground. And they are saying there is reconciliation between God and man for every human being on this earth - except for gays. And I don’t know who gave them that right! . . . I’m here to say, not that homosexuality is wrong. I’m here to say that there is reconciliation through the blood of Jesus Christ for every human being on the face of this earth. And no one is entitled to speak on God’s behalf and say who does and who doesn’t have that right. Because that price was paid - purchased by the blood of Jesus Christ."

She had all sorts of other crazy-ass things to say during that interview, including her confession to the Voice that she’d "been avoiding interviews with gay press . . . I’m going to kill my publicist," before she realized it was a gay publication.

Then she went on to yell (literally) about being misrepresented as a lesbian in the press.

I'm sure the gay community will miss her iconic presence.

This makes Liz Phair's sellout/transformation seem positively innocent by comparison. How distressing to hear she's gone down this road! Kinda glad I don't have any of Shocked's records anymore (I used to be fond of The Texas Campfire Tapes - "Necktie" was pretty clever).

In no way am I defending Shocked, but it turns out that actually she didn't say QUITE so simply that "God Hates Fags." She said the audience was going to say she said that, based on some of her OTHER comments, which, as we say, they are indeed doing. What she DID actually say certainly don't look good in print, based on what I've read, however; the most thorough description I've read of her "breakdown," if that's what it was, is here: http://ebar.com/news/article.php?sec=news&article=68602

Oops - that should have read, "as we see," not "as we say"...

Hopefully, this latest insane rambling finishes her already dying career.Ignorance has no place in modern society.

I think I speak for real music fans when I say " Who?"
