East Van Garbage Watch: It's a Dumpster furniture fire sale!
East Vancouver smells like shit.
Between West Coast Reduction's rendering plant on North Commercial, the vomit and urine streaking the sidewalks and alleyways after special events, and the epic piles of garbage, it's hard to argue that the east side of town smells like anything other than rancid death.
To wit, I present the lastest installment of East Van Garbage Watch (patent pending): a semi-regular series of photos of disgustingness.
Today's offender: It's a Dumpster furniture fire sale!
I first noticed this lovely tableau near the corner of Fraser Street and East 58th Avenue on December 23: it looked like a whole apartment's worth of furniture had been left near what I believe is the building's only Dumpster. Perhaps its abandoners thought Santa would pick it up and lovingly regift it to a family in need?
I tried to take a few pictures of the carnage, but only one photo (below left) turned out.
When I passed by again on Christmas Day, the pile of trash had predictably grown.
I know moving is difficult, but leaving all of your furniture in an apartment's parking lot seems pretty irresponsible, even to me.
(Pro-tip: try getting rid of your unwanted furniture for free on Craigslist or Freecycle before leaving it to decay into a useless pile of crap.)
In need of a slightly mouldy couch or some rain-soaked chairs? I'm pretty sure most of this stuff's still sitting there.
And for fun, here are a couple of random shots from this year that didn't warrant their own posts.
Exhibit A:
Exhibit B:
Also, I'd like to say a big thank you to all of the garbage watchers out there who sent me content this year. See you in 2015!

It isn't exactly East Van, but take a walk around the east side of BC Place. The aftermath of the Contact Music Festival is spread all over the place. Trash everywhere. If this is the respect the festival organizers show our neighbourhood, I will be sure to let city hall know what I think about them holding this event here again.
