Willie Nelson speaks out in support of gay marriage

In an exclusive interview with Texas Monthly published today (March 28), Willie Nelson revealed that he is a-okay with gay marriage.

The country music legend has been closely watching the U.S. Supreme Court, which is currently hearing arguments regarding the Defense of Marriage Act.

"...it's ridiculous to me that this is something we're having a conversation about this in this day and age. I thought it was something that was settled a long time ago," he told TMs Andy Langer.

Nelson said even growing up in small-town Texas it wasn't such an issue as it is now, and America should be focusing on larger problems.

"Gay or straight? Married, not married?  It was never a question. And now there's fussin', fightin', and arguin' over it? Let's get off that and talk about guns."

Liberal-minded Nelson is historically outspoken and has been actively supportive of many causes, such as pot legalization, animal welfare, and biodiesel production.

I have to agree with Willie. The US is falling apart economically, politically and socially, and the Big Issue of the day is whether gay people should be allowed to exchange rings in a civil ceremony? Not in a church surrounded by closed-minded people, but in a courthouse, in the eyes of the law? Are they serious?

The people of the United States, whom I once respected, have lost their way. They fight about the right to marry; they fight about the right to carry sidearms on the street; they hunt for evil immigrants; they fight about the right to visit a hospital; they live in fear of imaginary "evil-doers". It's just insane.

Sadly, Canada is now headed the same way - because the average voter is too ignorant, too blind, too foolish to see.
