Nikki Sixx says he'd turn down Rock Hall: perfect, more room for Rory Gallagher

    1 of 3 2 of 3

Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx declared on his Facebook page the other day that he’d “probably” turn down induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

      Fvckin-AAA!

That just leaves more room for more deserving types like Rory GallagherJohnny Winter, and Link Wray.

Here’s Sixx’s post, complete with grammatical errors:

The only award I look forward to getting the the one I will probably decline and thats The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame….Its a fixed old boy network that has lost touch with art, songwriting craft, lyrics and influential music and usually has other agenda’s at hand.………Young bands tell me its a joke and these bands are the future…………

We’d totally agree with Sixx that the Rock Hall is an old-boy network that is out of touch, but as far as he and his band ever being nominated: fvck that noise. I can think of loads of acts more deserving than the Crue, including–apart from the obvious three mentioned above–Blue Oyster CultDick Dale, Dire Straits, Free, Gary Moore, Humble Pie, Iron Maiden, the J. Geils Band, Jethro TullMotorhead, Mott the Hoople, the New York Dolls, Peter Green, Rick Derringer, Robin Trower, Ronnie MontroseTen Years After, T. Rex, Thin LizzyUFOWarren Zevon, and Wishbone Ash.

The much-maligned (especially here) Rock Hall gained a smidgen of respect last month when it inducted Stevie Ray Vaughan, so we can hardly imagine it stooping low enough to give Sixx a shot at turning down induction.

I mean, letting KISS in was low enough, dontcha think?

Newt - pretty sure KISS only got in for their songwriting...seriously, where would our generation be without I WANNA ROCK AND ROLL ALL NIGHT?

A few seconds into this Youtube clip(from last September), Billy Joel says he's amazed Joe Cocker isn't in the R and R Hall yet; me too!

Sixx and the rest of the Crüe should get to the back of the line behind all of the above plus the amazing but understandably overshadowed Spiders from Mars. They worked with Ziggy/Bowie on what I think are his best albums. And the Ziggy album itself is one of the two greatest concept albums ever released. Dark Side of the Moon is the other of course. Bowie gets all of the credit but Ziggy wouldn't have mattered without Mick Ronson and the other Spiders. Nuff said.

The whole thing is this: If SRV goes in, Alvin Lee, Rory Gallagher, & Johnny Winter are in. The Hall is a joke, everyone knows it. How can a guy sell 30 million albums worldwide, and not get in? Green Day? Joan Jett?? It speaks for itself...from its ass...

Spinal Tap should be in by now to give the awards the credibility they are due.
