Photos: Former police station painted with calls for social housing in Downtown Eastside
The City of Vancouver wants to establish a technology incubation centre in the former police station at Main and East Cordova streets.
But several Downtown Eastside groups say the old cop shop in the heart of the community should become social housing.
On Sunday (April 14), "Homeless Dave"—who was on Day 24 of his hunger strike for housing and social justice in the gentrifying neighbourhood—and his supporters (75 to 100 of them, according to activist Wendy Pedersen) gathered at the site for a Paint Party for Housing.
Messages such as "Condos create homelessness", "No corps here", "100% social housing", and "Human capital not venture capital" were painted on the exterior of the station.

What a dangerous subversive message! Thankfully the powers that be were there later that night power washing these radical notions away. (Megaphone had a pic but it looks like they've got page issues at the moment..)

It is not a lawful option to leave your messages up, Cameron.

Ergo, what these painters have managed to accomplish is this: waste public money that might have gone to some better use.

Don't like that one, eh? You know what else I hate? Gravity. Age. That chocolate has calories.
