Vancouver-Langara MLA Moira Stilwell releases a video about health care

During her run for the B.C. Liberal leadership in 2011, Dr. Moira Stilwell made some waves with her health-care pronouncements.

The nuclear-medicine specialist stirred up considerable debate by calling for a public dialogue on ways in which the private health-care system could assist the public system.

In particular, she referred to waitlists for routine procedures, such as hip and knee replacements.

Stilwell's last position in cabinet was as the minister of social development; her boss, Christy Clark, never put her in charge of the health-care system.

And now, she's in a tough fight in Vancouver-Langara against former two-term city councillor George Chow, who's running for the B.C. NDP.

To remind everyone about her interest in health care, Stilwell released a video (see above) today. She discusses areas where B.C. has succeeded—such as cancer care—mentioning how the approach here should be a model for further improvements to the system.

But unlike during the leadership race, there was no suggestion of the possibility of expanding private health care to fill any gaps in the public system.

You can't be the Minister of Social Development and be concerned about others, especially their health when disability clients in need of surgery die on the street.
I am in need of surgery but do not have the confidence in the hospitals to provide patients with a safe environment. People don't count, Christie talks about the futures of children when kids in BC aren't doing so well especially under Moria Stilwell, the Minister of Social Development the biggest offender of putting children at risk.
