Sharks eliminate Canucks with second overtime victory of the series

It's time for the Vancouver Canucks to practise their golf swings as coach Alain Vigneault and general manager Mike Gillis ponder their future.

For the second straight year, the Northwest Division leaders have been eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.

This time, it came at the hands of the San Jose Sharks, who won all four games of their quarter-final series against the Canucks.

Last year, the Stanley Cup–winning Los Angeles Kings disposed of Vancouver in five games.

Tonight, Patrick Marleau scored the game winner at 13:18 of overtime in a 4-3 victory over the Canucks.

It came after a boarding call against Daniel Sedin.

For the second game of the series, Vancouver blew a third-period lead.

Joe Pavelski tied the game at 15:33—his second power-play marker of the match. Brent Burns was the other Sharks goal-scorer on a tip-in early in the first period.

Mason Raymond, Alex Burrows, and Alex Edler scored for Vancouver.

If the Canucks played the first three games like they did tonight, they might still be in the playoffs. Same ole song & dance; Canucks are a very good regular season team but that's about it!

Boston vs Toronto, Penguins vs Islanders, Red Wings vs Ducks are all must watch series!

The Canucks were outscored 15-8 over four games and outshot 146-126, including 10-5 in OT _before_ the boarding call. But go ahead; blame the refs.

(BTW: That wasn't the last penalty in the game. Daniel took a game misconduct after the final whistle for mouthing off. Classy team you've got there, AV.)

The Sedins are two of the classiest players in the league, and they have to put up with one heck of a lot more crap than most.
For a finishing-school innocent to give a misconduct after the playoffs have ended says a hell of a lot more about the ref than it does Daniel Sedin.
Stick to selling Acmes. Say hi to the Coyote for me.

If the Canucks keep losing does that mean that some of the ubiquitous TVs in EVERY restaurant will be tuned to something besides sports? Or better still, turned off? Where can I go to be in the city but away from loser sports fans?

The Canucks being jobbed by the refs is a fact, but a fact that is based in the Canucks having been a team of divers. Refs don't like being shown up. Hopefully the refs got that out of their system now.

Nonetheless, if you can't score on your power play or defend on the PK then you're going to lose.

A sweep is actually a silver lining. The Canucks are obviously fairly decent or they would not be in the post season, but they are not as good as they think they are or many of us thought they are.

When you are utterly dominated in possession, shots, faceoffs, takeaways, and zone time by a good-not-great Sharks team then there is no way to keep wishfully thinking that it is stil 2011 and the Canucks are still great.

And Hazlit, you could ask the bar to put on Book Television!

I tell you what i don't like the Boston (bullies) Bruins, New York (Retard) Rangers
Anaheim (bend over and suck your trucks) Ducks,
the LOS Angeles (loose asshole dinks) Kings,
the San jose (where they can't swim in a bay ) Sharks getting away with the after whistle shit they take too many liberties with whacking and hacking and running over the goalies AND BAD REF CALLS IT HAS TO STOP. THERE'S A THING CALLED A RULEBOOK USE IT YOU F***'n BONE HEADS BECAUSE OF KELLY( BEND OVER AND SUCK HIS HAM ) SUTHERLAND THE CANUCKS GOT SCREWED, I KNOW IT'S NOT ALL THE REFS FAULT BUT THIS TIME THEY TAKE 90% OF THE BLAME.IN the 80'5 and 90's we had a real batch of jack-ass refs and this must be batch #2 of jack-ass refs they seem can't make the right calls.so be it, i have no respect for officals that can't call a game 50-50 down the line they don' deserve to be an NHL officals.AND ANOTHER THING GOALIES SHOULD NOT LEAVE THEIR CREASE FOR ANY REASON THEY NEED TO CHANGE THAT RULE.THE REASON WHY IT STOPS PLAYERS FROM RUNNING THE GOALIES

AND IF YOU AIN'T DOWN WITH THAT I GOT 2 WORDS FOR YA

      SUCK IT
