      Leaders make final push  On the last day of the provincial election campaign, B.C. Liberal Leader Christy Clark will campaign in the Lower Mainland, including a stop in Vancouver-Point Grey, and on Vancouver Island. NDP Leader Adrian Dix will campaign for 24 hours in numerous communities, including late-night stops at the Gate Gourmet restaurant in Richmond and the Naam Restaurant in Kitsilano.

      Concerned Citizens of B.C. vanishes  The shadowy group that spent vast amounts of money on ads attacking NDP Leader Adrian Dix has pulled down its website and shut down its Twitter account.

      Fire forces evacuation  The Thompson-Nicola Regional District has issued a voluntary evacuation order in response to a wildfire near Ashcroft. There aren’t many homes in the area, which is five kilometres south of town.

      City won’t take over the Centre  Vision Vancouver councillor Heather Deal says there’s not much the city can do if the owner of the Centre in Vancouver for the Performing Arts decides to sell the venue at 777 Homer Street to Westside Church.

      Chris Hadfield coming back to Earth  Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield has turned over command of the International Space Agency to a Russian cosmonaut. Hadfield, who charmed Canadians with his musical performances and education efforts in space, is expected to land with an American and Russian in Kazakhstan this evening.

      Labrador by-election  Conservative Peter Penashue is trying to get back into Parliament in a by-election today after losing his seat for exceeding the 2011 spending limit. Liberal Yvonne Jones, a former provincial legislator, is the front runner. The NDP candidate, Harry Borlase, spurned calls not to run to make it easier to defeat Penashue, a former cabinet minister.

      Peter Worthington dies  Former war correspondent, Toronto Sun founder, and author Peter Worthington passed away in Toronto General Hospital. A relentless right winger and populist journalist, Worthington played a significant role in Canada becoming a more conservative country.

      Nawaz Sharif wins in Pakistan The Pakistan Muslim League, led by former Pakistani prime minister Nawaz Shrarif, has won the parliamentary elections.

      Top Chinese official investigated  The Xinhua News Agency has revealed that Liu Tienan, deputy director of the national Development and Reform Commission, is being investigated for “serious disciplinary violations”. Liu is one of China’s highest-ranking economic officials and he reportedly has links to the owner of the Skeena Cellulose mill in Prince Rupert.

      Red Wings advance  The Detroit Red Wings defeated the second-ranked Anaheim Ducks 3-2 in the final game of their best-of-seven Western Conference quarter-final match. Next, the Red Wings will take on the top-ranked Chicago Blackhawks.

      Toronto Maple Leafs triumph  In Game 6 of their best-of-seven Eastern Conference quarter final, the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Bruins 2-1 to push the series to a seventh game tonight in Boston.

      Matthew Perry congratulated for failure  There's an amusing video on YouTube of Matthew Perry receiving congratulations from a Fox Sports broadcaster on the day his show, Go On, was cancelled.
