Sasquatch 2013: Day three belongs to Capital Cities

By day three of the Sasquatch Music Festival, there had been some truly amazing performances. Well-known bands had ripped the stages apart, singing their biggest hits and dominating the crowds with relative ease.

And there were lots of high hopes for day three.

Danny Brown, the Tallest Man on Earth, Dropkick Murphys, Mumford and Sons, Grimes, and Primus 3D gave everything they had and put on some truly stellar shows.

However, day three belonged to mainstage opener Capital Cities.

Right from the beginning, the five-piece electro-rock band brought its game, wearing matching white bowler jackets with their names emblazoned on the breast pockets and busting out synchronized dance moves, which encapsulated the crowd and stared a gigantic dance party.

As the Los Angeles group moved further into its set, things really took off, offering up crowd-pleasing tunes one after another, throwing together some serious moves for a cover of “Staying Alive”, and sending the stage into ecstasy with the band's feel-good “I Sold My Bed But Not My Stereo”.

Halfway through the band’s big hit, “Safe and Sound”—with lights flashing everywhere and the crowd going crazy—a security guard cracked a smile. To understand the rarity of this, you’d have to be here but it’s safe to say that things were jubilant.

At this point, Capital Cities had done more than enough to cement this as a truly great performance, but they weren’t done.

After covering Madonna’s “Holiday” to the delight of the female-heavy throng, the band gave its thanks, put on an electronic version of “Safe and Sound”, and jumped into the crowd.

Capital Cities is releasing its first album, In a Tidal Wave of Mystery, on June 4. Get it.
