Karen Flamenco presents Sleeping Beauty, a flamenco-inspired reimagining of the classic fairy tale, from Saturday and Sunday (June 1 to 2) at the Vancouver Playhouse (600 Hamilton Street). Evening performances start at 7 p.m. and a matinee on Sunday (June 2) begins at 3 p.m.

Sleeping Beauty tells the story of the beautiful Princess Aurora, who is kept out of danger by three good fairies. On her 16th birthday, Aurora is cursed by the evil Maleficent to prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and falls into a deep sleep. Only the love of a prince can save the princess from death.

Karen Flamenco is a Vancouver-based dance company founded by Karen Pitkethly. The troupe has performed flamenco productions of Romeo & Juliet, Moulin Rouge, Peter Pan, and Snow Queen.

Tickets to Sleeping Beauty are $20 to $32.50 and can be purchased online or by calling 604-721-4869.
