The Talking Stick Festival takes place at the Roundhouse Community Centre (181 Roundhouse Mews) and various Vancouver venues today (February 17) until to March 1.

Presented by Full Circle First Nations Performance, the 14th annual festival celebrates the creative works and artistic wealth of Aboriginal arts, including theatre, dance, drumming, music, spoken word, visual arts, and multimedia performance.

Festival highlights include throat singer Tanya Tagaq and soulful singer-songwriter Leela Gilday. The York Theatre will host Generations, a musical evening curated by Suzette Amaya on February 26. Generations will feature several artists including East Vancouver’s K.A.S.P.

Salt Baby is among the theatrical performances. The moving comedic play written by Falen Johnson and directed by Yvette Nolan explores what it means to look white but have native ancestry.

Tickets to the Talking Stick Festival are $12 to $40 and can be purchased online in advance.
