ScarJo facing legal action over crap new band

      Fresh from her mauling by John Travolta’s wax effigy at the Oscars last weekend, Scarlett Johansson woke up this morning to even more abuse.

      After debuting her new musical project the Singles last week, Johansson was slapped with an injunction by the other Singles, an L.A.-based band who started using the name at roughly the same time Ms. Johansson was appearing unnoticed in such cinematic classics as My Brother the Pig.

      “I woke up one morning and learned from the news that our band name was literally just taken by someone else as their own,” said frontman Vince Frederick in a press release.

      “It’s hard to believe that any musician* would do something like that to another band. The Singles has been my life for the past 16 years. We have worked so incredibly hard to make it a success. Our band, The Singles, has an account on nearly all social media sites and our music is available in record shops, on iTunes, SoundCloud, and other websites. Just a simple search on Google would have revealed that ‘The Singles’ was already a band name being used by another pop/rock band—our band.”

      The ScarJo version of the Singles also features Este Haim, Holly Miranda, and a couple of other people who are probably just as blithely secure in their feelings of entitlement. Their first release, the Dave Sitek-produced “Candy”, appeared on SoundCloud last Tuesday.

      Early reviews pointed out that “Candy” was basically shit, but still better than ScarJo’s travesty of a mockery of a sham of the hash that she and Pete Yorn made out of “I Am the Cosmos” a few years back. So there’s that.

      The Singles, on the other hand, is a band that blew my neon pink and green socks off when I caught them at Pop Montreal in 2002. I subsequently interviewed Frederick for the Nerve Magazine.

      Originally from Detroit, the Singles produce a form of electric rock ‘n’ roll music that some pundits identify as “power pop”. This is in contrast to the kind of pop that Scarlett Johansson is associated with, which is the bubbly kind made from the blood of Palestine.

       * Scarlett Johansson is not a musician, although she plays one in a "band"

      Meh, stop pretending that your boring old 90s throwback indie rock dudes are more authentic than even the blandest shiny pop artifact. You're wrong and this article comes across as bullying and misogynistic. BTW The Singles are a Dutch band from the early 80s with lots of records if you just check online.

      16 years and they didn't copyright their name?

      Sounds like a bedroom band that erred still riding coat tails.

      You're joking

      @everything

      Misogynistic???!!! Oh right, it's a man being critical of something that a woman did. Women are very fragile, after all, and we don't want to induce fainting spells. Good call.
