Ho Lee Fuk: Fox-affiliated TV station makes a major blooper after Asiana Flight 214 crashes in San Francisco
A recent plane crash had San Francisco broadcasters and newspapers scrambling to scoop their rivals.
That's always a fertile opportunity for media pranksters.
So it shouldn't come as a huge surprise that someone slipped fake names of the four pilots of Asiana Flight 214 to the local Fox affiliate, KTVU.
Naturally, the station rushed the names to air: Captain Sum Ting Wong, Wi Tu Lo, Ho Lee Fuk, and Bang Ding Ow. (Read those names quickly in succession and you'll get the joke.)
Anchor Tori Campbell must have felt that she was left with some egg foo yung on her face as she read the apology below.
Campbell claimed that the names had been checked with the National Transportation Safety Board—but that assertion has since been denied by the NTSB.
It told Gawker that it doesn't release names of pilots. The station later blamed the screwup on an intern.

I love news agencies. Report it wrong. Cover yourself with NTSB approved names. Wrong again. Hell, let's just make stuff up.

I have to admit I laughed my ass off at this. I'm not surprised they didn't catch it; after all, it is Faux News.

Best part...
Asiana Airlines is suing the Fox affliate.
"Asiana Airlines says KTVU damaged the airline's reputation with the "racially discriminatory report" against Asians and will file a lawsuit in the US."

So I guess crashing a plane and almost killing hundreds of people due to pilot ineptness wasn't enough to mar their reputation. They should be suing themselves.

The names read like a bad joke. Considering that this news from San Francisco. These 4 names which are very Chinese sounding read like a poor insult. Considering that Asiana is an upstart Korean competitor to Korean Air. Asiana isn't a Chinese company to begin with!
