When and how to listen to Metro Vancouver mayors answer questions about the transit referendum

      The Metro Vancouver Mayors’ Council has released a schedule of “telephone town halls” during which time the region’s civic leaders will answer questions about the upcoming transit plebiscite.

      Mayor Gregor Robertson and Vision Vancouver councillor Andrea Reimer fielded citizens’ queries yesterday (March 2).

      Here’s a schedule for six more teleconferences happening this week and through March. To listen in, call the number below and enter the corresponding event code when prompted.

      A nonbinding plebiscite on TransLink’s 10-year transportation plan is scheduled to occur via mail-in ballot from March 16 to May 29. The region is voting on a proposed 0.5-percent sales-tax increase that would be used to fund regional infrastructure including a Broadway subway line, a new Pattullo Bridge, and other transportation projects.

      Is this 0.5% increase in the provincial sales tax permanent, or is it for a fixed period to fund fixed projects?
