25 years ago today: Nirvana plays the Town Pump (two days after the Beat Farmers)

Twenty-five years ago today—on March 12, 1990—Nirvana played the Town Pump on a double-bill with fellow Seattle grunge-rockers Tad.

      Remember that amazing gig?

      I don't.

For some strange reason I didn't go, although a year later I'd return to the fabled Gastown venue to review Tad, and then six months after that, the mighty Pearl Jam.

I've been wracking my brain, trying to remember why I didn't see Nirvana, and then I noticed an entry on the Town Pump strip ad just below the Tad/Nirvana ad:

A-ha! So there's the reason why I didn't go, I'll bet. The Beat Farmers had played a double-header on the weekend, and I was still too fried to contemplate a Monday night out.

A pox on Country Dick Montana and his irresistable musical charms!

steve, Im jealous you were able to see shows like this(even though you missed this one). I bet Nirvana would have been loud and kick-ass.

I sure do remember that gig; I was playing bass for the Bombshells when we opened that show. If I ever get grandchildren, I will be telling them that story. AND I remember the Beat Farmers, gig too...although that memory is a bit more hazy.

Don't forget that very few people gave a crap about Nirvana until Nevermind hit the airwaves in 1991. I think Nirvana did some shows before this one at the Cruel Elephant, they opened on a 3 or 4 band Screaming Trees show at the commodore after the town pump and may have find one other multi band Commodore show before doing their own headline show at the commodore. The only other show they did was the final one at the Forum.
