For the second year in a row, Carrall Street between Cordova and Water Streets will be closed on August 31 and September 1 from 1 to 8 p.m. to make room for the Gastown BBQ and Chili Festival.

The free family-friendly outdoor food festival and block party raises funds for Athletics 4 Kids and will feature food from select Gastown restaurants, a BBQ and chili competition, live music, DJs, a craft beer tasting area, wing-eating contest, face painting for kids, and more.

On both Saturday (August 31) and Sunday (September 1), entrants from participating restaurants will prepare both a BBQ item and a chili, which will be judged by the general public, as well by a team of celebrity judges consisting of chef David Hawksworth, Jason Garrison of the Vancouver Canucks, B.C. Lion Angus Reid, media personality Joe Leary, and Breakfast Television host Dawn Chubai.

On Sunday evening, awards for the best ribs, brisket, wings, and chili will be handed out during a Labour Day Luau Party, hosted by the Blarney Stone, featuring a pig roast, live band, and DJ.

More info on the Gastown BBQ and Chili Festival can be found on the Blarney Stone's website.
