Photos: Le Dîner en Blanc 2013 a visual splendour for Vancouver

    1 of 22 2 of 22

More than 2,500 people gathered near Science World yesterday evening (August 22) for Le Dîner en Blanc 2013.

The food and style spectacle required attendees to don all-white attire and collect at a number of secret locations scattered around the city. From those gathering points, people were led on foot or transported by bus or boat to the extra secret location of the actual event, which, this year, was the park in False Creek adjacent to Science World.

Le Dîner en Blanc started in Paris 25 years ago. Last year’s inaugural soirée for Vancouver was held under the glow of the Olympic Torch at Jack Pool Plaza in Coal Harbour.

With a wait-list to participate in next year’s party reportedly longer than 10,000 names, Le Dîner en Blanc has quickly become the summer event for many people in city.

Here are a selection of photos from the event from photographer Andrew Chin.

What a disgusting display of decadence while thousands more live hand to mouth homeless in this city. Shame on the Straight for giving this coverage.

Coming out of the Black Sabbath concert last night only to see a smattering of beautiful people dressed in white all trying to hail cabs around Science World. What a contrast! I prefer the dark side.

The skytrain afterwards with Sabbath fans in black was quite a sight.

Shawn - How dare you live inside a home and eat 3 meals day while millions of people live in squalor around the world. Many have no solid roof over their heads and have to comb through garbage to find food or make a living. They live without proper clothing, education or medical care and many die of malnutrition or disease, while entitled fat cats like yourself enjoy free medical care, employment insurance, disability benefits, welfare and a guaranteed income when you turn 65 - most of these people won't even live to 65. Not only that but you're committing all of these atrocities on stolen First Nations land. You disgust me.

You ignorant fuck. People create their means. Who gives a fuck about a standard. Ability to change is always present and will never die. Step your life game up if you're so butt hurt about other.
