Comic book cosplay meets burlesque at the Rio Theatre this week.

Vancouver directing duo Jen and Sylvia Soska, also known as the Twisted Twins (Dead Hooker in a Trunk, American MarySee No Evil 2) are throwing a fundraiser Thursday night (April 30) at the Rio for their latest endeavour, a graphic novel titled Kill-Crazy Nymphos Attack!.

The novel was written by the Soska sisters and Daniel Way (WolverineDeadpoolAstonishing X-Men).

Kill-Crazy Nymphos Attack! is about a “crappy scientist” and “sleaze bag” named Pervis Gunt, according to Sylvia Soska. “Pervis tries to make a female Viagra to get women to want to screw like porn stars, but he totally messes it all up, because he's just a shit scientist, and creates Kill-Crazy Nymphos, that naturally then attack,” she said. “It's a satirical commentary on the world and what is acceptable/unacceptable. It's very uncensored and we aren't holding anything back, so that's very cool.”

The Soska sisters are known for heavy gore and dark humor in their projects, the latter of which is something they have in common with Way, a writer with Marvel of whom they are long-time fans.

"It's insane to be working with him," Jen Soska said. "He's written our favorite Deadpool stuff. We know and love our Deadpool. You should really read his stuff. Not safe for work if your job sucks."

The fundraiser at the Rio Theatre is just part of their crowd funding to make the graphic novel happen.

“It's going to be a night of cosplay, special guests, burlesque, fire acts, comedy, prizes, drinking, and pretty much cool shit,” Jen said.

All three creators will be in attendance, along with artist Rob Dumo, who will be making custom posters that guests can have themselves drawn into. “We highly encourage our guests to dress up. There will be prizes for best cosplay," said Jen.

Once the book is complete, there’s also a good chance the Soska twins will turn it into a film.

"The book will most likely be the ‘director's cut’ version as there's quite a bit of stuff that won't make it past the censors," Sylvia said.

“[Toxic Avenger director and Troma films founder] Lloyd Kaufman's even backed the book so he'll definitely be in the film when we make it,” Jen said. “I think that making Kill-Crazy Nymphos Attack! as a (very) graphic novel to start out is a great way to show that there's a demand and an audience for material like this.”
