Non-apology watch: White Rock councillor David Chesney on pregnant women dressing like “sausage casings”

    1 of 2 2 of 2

Why bother apologizing if you don't mean it?

White Rock councillor David Chesney landed himself in hot water with idiotic comments about how some pregnant women dress in an online interview last month.

Talking about Global B.C. senior meteorologist Kristi Gordon receiving nasty letters taking issue with her choice of maternity wear, Chesney said on The Goddard Report:

I'm not advocating that they wear tents....I see women, I run into women all the time in the local grocery store, and they can't get on any more skin tight, it looks like sausage casing. Their belly button is pushing through the material and I kinda look at that and I go, 'I get it, you're pregnant, all right.' Now why, why, why such a desire to push that out in front of everyone and, and again, as I say I know I can hear some people screaming at me right now.

In response to this week's mini media firestorm over his comments, Chesney has come out with an apology of sorts.

On his White Rock Sun website, Chesney alleged today (May 1) that White Rock mayor Wayne Baldwin recently "said something to the effect that I may regret or I will be sorry or something to that effect about my remarks as he termed 'your talk with your buddy.'"

      Chesney continues in his post:

Mid afternoon yesterday my city supplied "bat phone" began to ring off the hook. I naturally assumed they were calling regarding what as going on down at White Rock city hall. Imagine my surprise when the first call I returned, the reporter informed me she wanted to talk to me about my comments on pregnant women?

Now I know there is not much left of a real newsroom in any media outlet in Vancouver, but this was so strange. The interview in question that the media was inquiring about was nearly a MONTH OLD! Have you ever read a story in the newspaper that you had knowledge of and scratched your head and said "That story is all wrong, they don't have the facts straight at all?" I have. Far too many times.

This story appearing now just didn't make sense, then the light bulb went on.

Coincidence or conspiracy? We may never know. But then again we just might.

I apologize to any women that may have been offended by comments that were taken out of context.

      If this isn't a non-apology, I don't know what is.

I apologize for voting for an idiot who I should have known was an idiot but since I didn't know they were an idiot you can't really blame me for voting for an idiot.

There are far too many dinosaur politicians , usually voting Conservative, (BC Liberal) male, who are far too comfortable making such lowbrow comments. They are who they are. Ignorance exceeded only by arrogance. Once millennials START VOTING, dinosaurs like this foolish man will be be kicked so far out of office they won't even bounce. Mum once told me "better to keep your mouth shut and have people wonder if you are a fool or not, rather than open it and remove all doubt".

He said nothing harmful, hurtful or factually incorrect. Bad taste? Yes absolutely. Vote him out next time. Personally I think Kristi Gordon is as attractive expecting as not expecting and don't care how she dresses. Want to make this a "serious issue?" Then take some time to consider why so many "serious issues" become jokes within hours. Big deal, some idiot made inappropriate comments about pregnant women. In White Rock.

Only in North America would anyone give a flying fuck about trying to look trendy while pregnant. Well-off white women! Get over yourselves already. There are awful things happening in this world and your feelings being hurt mean fuck all.

Almost as much fun as the Cliff Annable vs. Margaret Woods saga some years back when Woods allegedly stabbed Annable in the face with a pen. That made it all the way to CNN.
