Nerd alert! Star Wars Day brings big news about Boba Fett and more

Happy Star Wars Day! May the Fourth be with you and all that. Unsurprisingly, this has been a big news day for Star Wars fans. After yesterday's big reveal of the Annie Leibovitz-shot cover featuring members of the cast of Episode VII: The Force Awakens, Vanity Fair has spent today rolling out tantalizing and revealing tidbits, including photos of Adam Driver as Kylo Ren and Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma. Oh, and there's also this behind-the-scenes video, which was posted to the magazine's YouTube channel yesterday:

In other news from a galaxy far, far away, the British government has announced (via tweets from Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne) that the as-yet-unsubtitled Episode VIII will be filmed at Pinewood Studios. This isn't a huge surprise, since much of The Force Awakens was also shot at the Buckinghamshire studios.

All we know about Episode VIII at this point is that it is to be written and directed by Rian Johnson (Looper), and that it is slated for release on May 26, 2017.

The Wrap reported today that the second in a series of three standalone films set in the Star Wars galaxy will focus on bounty hunter Boba Fett. This comes as we also learn that director Josh Trank will not be helming that project.

Lucasfilm released details of the first of the "Star Wars Anthology" features, Rogue One, in March. Directed by Gareth Edwards and starring Felicity Jones, Rogue One will tell the story of a band of resistance fighters trying the steal the plans for the Death Star. (Presumably the first Death Star, which would set it some time before Episode IV.) That one hits cinemas in December of 2016, about a year after The Force Awakens.

Is that enough Star Wars for one day?

Agree with West Vanman. As an adult I don't understand why films like this are so popular with grown ups, but I do notice that people...well men....seem to be going through a prolonged puberty these days and I can't help but feel that indulging them with children's programming is part of the main problem. I work at a company with many software developers, mainly male and most in their early 30's. It's like walking in to a daycare every morning since most of them have their desks covered in toy guns and dolls. A toddler would be envious, but in reality it's just pathetic. Time to grow up boys and tackle the adult problems that are plaguing this world. Star Wars is not the answer and a dose of reality is needed since Luke Skywalker and Han Solo are not going to save the world.

@Toddlers, I'm pretty sure West Vanman was actually saying the opposite of that. (I read it as "there is no such thing as enough Star Wars.")

I'm also reasonably sure that one can make room in one's life for both serious thought and escapist entertainment. If not, we're more fucked than I thought.
