Sasquatch 2015: Action Bronson totally owns the Bigfoot Stage
There are many ways to open up a show if you’re an artist at Sasquatch! Music Festival. One of such ways is to walk up in gym shorts, a grey T-shirt, and a massive beard to elevator music playing innocuously and shout “Turn that shit off!” When Action Bronson walked out onto the Bigfoot Stage, the sun was shining bright and clear. When he was done his set, which ran 20 minutes longer than it was scheduled (no complaints), rain was soaking the crowd.
Starting with “Brand New Car”, Bronson walked around the stage like he owned it. You could tell he loved this and couldn’t wait to embrace the crowd. It didn’t take him long. As soon as he started spitting out the infectious “Actin’ Crazy”, he made a beeline for a giant walkway that was supposedly only for photographers. Bronson (born Ariyan Arslani) slapped hands with the crowd, posed for selfies while rapping and walked down the tunnel in such a matter that Henrik Sedin would be green with envy.
The New York native and former well-respected chef of Manhattan’s culinary scene then decided that he didn’t think enough weed was being smoked in the crowd. So he literally threw weed into the crowd. Working in topics like seasonal vegetables and David Spade and lines like “Squid ink soup, bitch,” Bronson’s attitude was impossible not to love.
When the sun got sucked up and rain started pouring down, you had to think that this was Bronson’s doing; the man seemed that powerful. But nobody seemed to mind. With rain plummeting on the crowd, Bronson announced that he was about to sing better than he ever has, and busted out the opening lyrics to “Baby Blue” acapella. That song features Chance the Rapper, so when Chance’s part came up, Bronson called an audible and mixed the song with Biz Markie’s “Just A Friend,” jumping back and forth between the two songs admirably.
Bronson left the stage but no one bought it. Chants of “Action! Bronson!” brought him out for an encore and he didn’t disappoint with “Easy Rider,” which ends with a premonition that he’s going to “ride his Harley off into the sunset.” Of course, there wasn’t one to speak of anymore.
