As cities across Canada start raising the rainbow flag for Pride celebrations, the city of North Vancouver is slated to get an extra splash of colour this year in the name of inclusivity and countering discrimination.

This year, the North Vancouver School District will join the City of North Vancouver in flying the flag during Pride Week from July 27 to August 3.

A motion was submitted at a North Vancouver city council meeting on April 27 by Coun. Linda Buchanan and was carried unanimously.

Meanwhile, North Vancouver school trustees also unanimously supported a plan introduced by board chairperson Cyndi Gerlach to fly a rainbow flag at the school administration building that same week.
